Maybe I am naive to the amount of fun and frozen cocktails that bartenders can concoct on tropical vacations or maybe I'm not. However, I wish I would have known what to order before I got to the all-inclusive Cofresi Palm Beach Resort that was not listed on their menu. So here are the alchololic drinks that I ordered in the Dominican Republic from the bars at my resort that were not on the menu.

Mama Juana or Mamajuana is a traditional spiced rum from the Dominican Republic. It is a mix of rum, spices, honey, and sometimes red wine. The drink tastes like a very smooth and sweet spiced rum with no burn. If you are looking to try a traditional Dominican Republic liquor, this is the one to try. It traces back nearly 500 years and is claimed to have several health benefits.

Tiki Tiki

A Tiki Tiki reminds me of a Pina Colada with orange juice. And that's basically what it is. We saw another couple order this at the bar and had to try it. We ordered the drink blended and it came with a cherry on top. If you are looking for a fruity drink to try during the mornings of your vacation, this is it.

A waitress walked up to my boyfriend and me sitting on the beach to take our order, and on her tray was a drink that looked like the best chocolate milkshake on Earth. While it was not a chocolate milkshake, it was a blended chocolatey banana masterpiece. If you are a lover of bananas, chocolate, or both, I highly recommend giving this a try.

Rum and Coke

Yes I know, I know, a Rum and Coke is not a surprising drink. It is a classic drink that every bartender and customer a like knows. But when we ordered a Rum and Coke we thought the drink tasted sweeter than normal. It wasn't until we won a bottle of rum, took it back to our room, and used the Pepsi our hotel provided for us to have a "Rum and Pepsi" that we realized it tasted exactly like the Rum and Coke we ordered. So while this is not a "hidden cocktail" type of drink, it was surprising to us.

Dominican Love

Now, this drink was on the bar menu. But it was so good that it was my staple drink of the trip. And I scoured the internet to find the recipe but I could not find it for the life of me. I believe it was similar to a Pina Colada (not blended) with either strawberry syrup or cherry syrup. It was very similar to a Bay Breeze drink, so if you are in the mood for something fruity I would definitely recommend ordering this.

Presidente

This is also a drink that is on the menu (sue me), but that's because it is the beer of the Dominican Republic. Our resort provided us with two cans in our room, and it was easily available at every bar. We spoke with a lot of the locals and they all said the same thing, Presidente is their favorite beer. Speaking as someone who does not enjoy beer, I actually did not mind this beer at all.

My family members recommended ordering this drink before we departed on our trip, and it was my favorite drink on vacation. Named after the famous baseball player from the Dominican, the blended drink resembles a red, white, and blue Popsicle. If you find a bartender that knows how to make this drink, I highly encourage you order it!

One thing I would like to note is that we were also told to ask for our drinks to be made with alcohol because sometimes the bartenders at resorts don't always put alcohol in your drinks. We did not run into this problem at our resort, but if you are looking to enjoy alcohol on your trip it does not hurt to pay attention.

I hope you found this article helpful and tried a few of these drinks. Let me know your favorite one or if there are any that I missed!
